Combine Harvester
A combine harvester is a machine designed to harvest the various different types of agricultural grains, the most common being corn, wheat, barley and rye. There are three phases of harvesting- reaping, binding and threshing- and in the combine harvester they are ‘combined’ into one, saving a vast amount of time and resources. They were invented in a horse-drawn format in 1834 by Hiram Moore, before the modern diesel or petrol engine powered models were initiated in 1953.Combine harvesters for sale in the UK
Combine harvesters for sale in the UK today may also feature the rotary design, an innovation which relied on centrifugal force rather than simply gravity. Initially the grain was passed through external bars on a cylinder, in order to strip it form the stalk, but the rotary design, initiated in 1975, has the grain pass through a helical rotor. There are pros and cons to both the rotary and the conventional design, and they are both still operational; which is the best choice depends on a variety of situational factors.
